Felonies in District Court – 2011 was even worse than we thought

As part of our look back on 2011, this week we are examining district court cases. Dan Powell’s office dismissed an unusually large number of felonies in district court, which meant that the case could stay in district court, where less attention is drawn to the sweetheart deals that Dan gave out to some very serious criminals.

We are not just talking about assault charges or cases that belong in District Court. Dan Powell was resolving attempted murder cases, burglaries, and lots and lots of very serious cases as a way of keeping the criminals out of circuit court and out of prison. Here is a look at some of the more serious cases Stet’s Attorney Dan Powell hid down in district court.

All of these cases are cases that started off as felonies. Dan Powell’s office didn’t lose the felony after a trial. Instead, he decided to drop the felony and either pled the case down to a misdemeanor for local jail time or dismissed the whole case.

Gee–it looks as if you can assault someone and there will be no punishment because Dan has a proven record of dismissing the cases. This is disgusting. Just think, policemen responded to assault cases, and NOTHING happens to the criminals again and again. I am sure our law officers are wondering–“why bother?”

He is afraid to try anthing in Circuit Court. He will probably drop the felony counts against three charged in the pending homicide. He sucks!

its so sad to see how the justice system in somerset has just gone to pieces. what sadder is the fact that the voters were led to believe he could do a good job and believed it. now everyone suffers and criminals get the upper hand. congrats dan powell. you are the worst state attorney money can buy

And guess what – William “Bill” Ward will probably get a slap on the hand. Every Defense attorney should not accept any plea deals (in District or Circuit Court) and just take it to trial. Take the Deborah Barkley case – she got a stet from Dan and then said the hell with that and fought it. I’m sure Dan cried to his mommy when John Phoebus made him look like and ass – once again! Hopefully when Barkley sues the State to get her job back she will include Dan Powell in her lawsuit.

Dan Powell drops them in district court because he thinks it won’t get reported on this blog. This will show him! He can’t hide except in juvenile court.

Kroll put the stet on Ms. Barkley, not Dan the Man. Either way…Somerset county police and judicial system is crooked! Ms. Barkley should get PAID!!!
