Thug released by Powell arrested again in handgun case

Once again, a criminal set free by Dan Powell has been arrested for committing another act of violence.

Meet William Melrice Ward a/k/a “Bill Ward”. On September 24, 2011, the Crisfield Police charged him for having a handgun on his person, two counts of reckless endangerment, and two counts of affray. He was arrested on October 4 and bonded out the same day. When his case came up for trial in District Court on November 17, 2011, instead of prosecuting this handgun offense, Team Powell dismissed all of the charges setting him free.

Less than two months later, the Crisfield Police have arrested Ward again and charged him with 20 criminal counts — 6 counts of first degree assault, second degree assault and reckless endangerment and two weapons charges. According to WBOC, the charges arose from an incident in which Bill Ward and Mark Smith pointed handguns at six juveniles.

The Chief of the Crisfield Police sounded furious that Ward was even on the street and wrote a letter to Dan Powell, basically asking him to do his job and to prosecute this guy. Here is what Chief Tabor had to say to WBOC:

“This was a very egregious crime against these defenseless juveniles,” said Crisfield Police Michael Tabor, who noted that the suspects had pulled the guns on the juveniles without provocation.

“I have spoken to and written a letter to the State’s Attorney of Somerset County requesting swift justice in this matter,” the chief further stated. “Individuals like these need to be taken off the streets, as they have been, to protect our citizens from individuals who have no concern nor regard for life!”

The police are arresting the bad guys, but all Dan seems to know how to do is to let them go so they can commit the same crimes again.

Dan Powell–you need to resign at once. MY tax money is footing your salary, and you obviously do not care if someone is killed or injured. Your record is the poorest that our county has ever had. This is rather disgusting. It shows laziness, apathy and incompetence.

The irony here is too much. CPD is calling on Dan Powell to be a better prosecutor!

When the Chief is saying that people like this need to be off of the street, you know he is telling Dan Powell that he is responsible for this guy still being free.

Hey Crisfield Police – You guys supported Powell along with the Sheriff’s Department. You got what you asked for – losers.
